Last month, when 12-year old Emily Beazley from Chicago was battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, her friends and family took to social media to ask Taylor Swift to reach out to the young girl.
Taylor has shown that she has a great heart in the past, and this time was no different. According to a New York Post story at the time, her father confirmed that Taylor and Emily had a 10-minute conversation on the phone. The call lifted the girl’s spirits immensely.
Taylor even went so far as to offer the family tickets to an upcoming concert in Detroit. Sadly, Emily will not be able to make it.
It was announced Monday night that Emily passed away after losing her battle with cancer.
Let’s hope that more celebrities can be like Taylor Swift and step up to help those in need. We wrote earlier this year about how Taylor took the time to reach out to a hurting fan on Tumblr.
Let’s also hope that people continue to use social media for good – connecting those in need with one of their heroes is a great example of the good that can be done.
